Make no doubt about it though, the Bluffton Boy's Swim/Dive team made history by winning the schools first Sectional Championship ever. From the first event of the day where the boys punched their first of four tickets to the state meet by winning the 200 Medley Relay, the boys never looked back and never lost the lead! With each event the boys kept increasing their lead to eventually run away and win by 134 points which is significant margin. 200 Medley Relay - Before Thursday the relay team was seeded in 3rd. That quickly changed Thursday night by qualifying first in Saturdays Finals. On Saturday Noah Brooks led off the relay touching .3 seconds behind the Sectionals best swimmer, Deltas Zach Baty. The lead quickly changed when Senior captain Elija jumped in taking a commanding lead. Fellow Senior captain Dalton Rodgers and Sophomore Isaac Wheeler finished off the relay in Butterfly and Freestyle and were crowned Sectional Champions and qualified themselves for the state swim meet for the first time since 2020. In the 200 Freestyle Ashton Arnett placed 5th, Jackson Meyer was 7th, and Graham Linderwell was 8th. All three boys not only had personal best times, but placing all 3 in the top 8 was a huge accomplishment! Isaac Wheeler was the sectional runner-up in the 200 IM with teammate Dalton Rodgers placing 7th. Sophomore Braden Lemler went a personal best time to secure the 9th spot. A rarity in swimming happend in the 50 free when Wes Frettinger tied Bellmonts Hudson Krull for 4th overall. The two tore the 4th and 5th place ribbon to paste the opposite ends together to create a unique ribbon. Athan King was .12 of a second behind his teammate to take 6th. Lincoln Rodgers was able to move up a few positions from his qualifying time to take 12th. Diving made quite the splash as well when Senior captain Elija Robles qualified for regionals when he took 4th place. Griffin Linderwell and Blake Reinhard took 11th and 12th Isaac Wheeler punched his 2nd ticket to state by winning the 100 Fly going a personal best time. Teammate Ashton Arnett was part of another tie for 5th place. Braden Lemler was 12th. Noah Brooks dropped a spot from qualifying to take 3rd, Freshman Rhett Gerber went a best time to take 6th, and Wes Frettinger took 14th. The 500 Freestyle saw 3 Bluffton swimmers in the top 8 again with Griffin Linderwell being the Sectional Runner-up, Jackson Meyer 4th and Graham Linderwell 7th. Athan King, Wes Frettinger, Elija Robles, and Griffin Linderwell took 5th in the 200 Free Relay. Noah Brooks ran away from everyone else in 100 backstroke by over 3 seconds. Noah qualified for the state meet and will be the second race for him this Friday. Teammates Dalton Rodgers and Rhett Gerber were crucial in scoring points by taking 3rd and 4th. Even though no one qualified in the top 8 for Breaststroke, we were represented well with Elija Robles 9th, Anthony Hartman 11th, and Lincoln Rodgers 14th. The biggest race of the night was the last one on the event list. Coming into Thursday the boys were projected to take 4th place with a best time of 3:41. After Thrusday the boys had dropped 5 seconds and were the top time coming into finals. They continued to drop time and dropped 5 more seconds to swim a 3:31 and capture the 400 Free relay for the first time in school history. Not only did they qualify for this weeks state meet but this will be the first time Bluffton has sent two different relays to the state meet. The finishing touch to the day was coach Uptgraft being named Coach of the Year in the Sectional. At the end of the day, the team finishes the season with their 10th consecutive conference title, first time sectional champions, and an undefeated season. This season will go down in Bluffton school history as the greatest of all time and will be remembered for many years after.
