Wednesday night at Tiger Field Bluffton Softball recorded their first win against the Wayne Generals with a score of 14-9.
Kenja Moore got the start for the Tigers. Wayne took a quick lead in the first on 2 errors, 1 BB, and a hit batter. Bluffton answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st. Alexis Vineyard hit a triple on 2 outs to give the Tigers their first baserunners. Kenja Moore reached 1st on a walk, that was followed by a 2 run double from Allison Powers. Emily Pressler followed with a single of her own to score Powers. Ending the 1st with a score of 3-2. Wayne scored another run in the second on 2 walks and a single.
The Tigers continued to rally at the plate in the 2nd. Oliva King lead off the inning with a single and was moved over with a perfect sac bunt from Ashlyn Nestleroad. Megan Praters drilled a triple to left field scoring King and bringing up the heart of the Tigers order. Onuegbu followed with a single to score Prater. Moore and Powers both reached base on errors, letting Onuegbu score on Powers ground ball. Tigers would score 2 more again in the 3rd, with a double from Wenger, RBI single from King and RBI from Prater.
Becca James would come into pitch in the middle of the 4th, although the 4th inning was all about Wayne. The Generals scored 4 runs on 3 hits.
Now the Tigers were ready to put it to the Generals, as they scored 4 in the 5th. Nestleroad, Prater, and Onuegbu all strung together singles, followed by a double from Moore. This put the Tigers in the lead going into the 6th. Both teams scored 2 runs in the 6th making the score 14-9. Tigers ended the game with great defense by James on the mound and Pressler at 2nd.
The Tigers got their first win of the season going 7 innings, with 16 hit 5 errors and 7 left on base. Final score 14-9. Bluffton’s record is now 1-2.
